Everyone agrees to “Content is King” but we also know how important backlinks are. A backlink is still a key factor in SEO. So, you also need a good number of backlinks from authority sites along with good content to outrank your competitor. While considering backlinks, Google considers quality backlinks. Sometimes poor backlinks may negatively impact. Google also released the Google Penguin update that killed several websites with low-quality. This is the reason I recommend all website owners keep a track of backlinks. For checking backlinks, you can use any of the good backlink checker tools. In this article, I will tell you about the best backlink checker tools.
When I am talking about the backlink checker tools, I don’t just mean a tool that tells your backlinks. I am more interested in tools that give us proper data to analyze what we can do to grow. For example, more data such as backlink’s domain Authority, link popularity, anchor text, and more. This is the reason, I am adding links to the best tools where you can get data to help your website grow.

SEMrush is the only paid SEO tool that I personally use. The reason for using SEMrush is that it brings everything to a single platform. Even if the company recently increased the subscription price, I still use it because it is good. SEMrush is a complete tool that offers keyword research, backlink checking, competitor analytic, and more. As the article is about the backlink checker tools, I will recommend SEMrush at the top.
You can use SEMrush to check backlinks pointing to your website. The tool also lets you compare backlinks of up to 5 different domains. So, you can compare your website with competitors to see where your website is lacking and what areas you should work in.
LinkMiner is another excellent backlink checker tool you can try. LinkMiner is just for backlinks analytics. It is also a paid tool and the subscription starts at $49 per month ($29.90 per month if pay for a year at once). This tool helps you to find backlinks, evaluate link strength and also perform an advanced backlink analysis. You can also check backlinks based on categories.
There are three different subscription plans. Purchase as per your need.

Ahrefs is very much similar to SEMrush. This is a paid tool but you can check backlinks data for free. You just need to create an account and verify a domain. You can only check for the backlinks you have verified in the free account. It shows total backlinks, referring domains, organic keywords, organic traffic, and more data. You can also check for a full backlink report including backlink URLs and anchor text. You can see the top 100 backlinks to any domain or webpage using this free tool.
For more detailed data, you need to purchase the premium plan. Just like SEMrush, Ahrefs is also a complete tool where you can perform a link audit, keyword research, and competitor analysis. So, this paid tool is also worth but I prefer SEMrush.
Moz Link Explorer is an old and still popular backlink checker tool. Moz Link Explorer shows the data that Moz uses to measure DA and PA. Moz Link Explorer can be used for free but this tool works best if you have a paid account. In the free account, you can perform 10 searches a day.
This tool shows Domain Authority, linking domains, total Inbound Links, and total Ranking Keywords in the US. You can also explore backlink its and domain list that points to your website. You can also export this data in the CSV format to properly analyze it.
OpenLinkProfiler is also a good and free backlink checker. It also give you a good backlink data like unique links, total links, links to home page, trusted links, and a full backlink report. You can use this link at a to analyse all the backlinks pointing to your website.
This is a free backlink checker tool and shows the freshest backlinks. It also lets you export 1000 backlinks in .csv format for offline analysis. If you want a completely free tool that also doesn’t ask to create an account, go with this tool.
Seobility also includes a free backlink checker tool where you can perform 3 searches a day. You can create a free account and your free searches a day will be raised to 5. This tool also provides a good backlink profile and backlink data. It shows one Link per domain. You can also export this data as PDF or CSV format.
Google Search Console is also a free tool that aims to help webmasters. Along with search queries and issues with your website, it also shows the link data. Once you have verified your website here, you will get a proper backlink report with linking domains and backlinks. You can check the top 1,000 results. But this tool just provides the links. You cannot see if the backlink is worth enough until it is from a very popular domain that you know. This is the reason I am keeping this backlink checker tool low in this list.
Wrap Up
This list includes both free and paid backlink checker tools. Except for LinkMiner, all other tools offer basic backlink data for free. OpenLinkProfiler is completely free. So, choose a tool as per your need. I recommend SEMRush because it is a complete SEO tool. I use it for keyword research and competitor analysis.
